    The ceremony will be held at the Conner-Roark Association Cemetery on the edge of Mr. Ron Johnson's farm.  We will access the cemetery cross country via the Johnson's pasture. (See Conner Overview map and Conner map 1 at link)

    William Moore was part of Col. John Sevier's command at the Battle of King's Mountain.

       At 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 28, 2019, the John Sevier Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution in coordination with the McDonald Farm will conduct a ceremony honoring Revolutionary War veteran Benjamin Jones by unveiling a Patriotic Memorial marker at his grave site in the McDonald Family (Old Coulterville) Cemetery, Sale Creek, Tennessee.

      Hamilton County Early Resident

      Patriot Benjamin Jones is not only veteran of the Revolutionary War but also an early settler of Hamilton County, Tennessee which is currently celebrating its 200th Anniversary as an organized county. Numerous descendants of the Patriot still reside in Hamilton County.

      Soldier from Maryland

        Benjamin Jones was enrolled in Captain Nathan Smith's company on 29 JUN 1776 as part of Maryland's 3,400 man Flying Camp requirement to provide forces to General Washington.  The flying camp units were disbanded in December of 1776 with many men including Benjamin Jones enlisting in the Maryland Line.  Benjamin joined Captain Thomas Handy's company

      of the 5th Maryland Regiment commanded by Col. William Richardson on 26 DEC 1776 and is known to have served till

      August of 1778.

      Patriot who re-enlisted

      He is noted as enlisting for three years as a re-enlistment on 22 FEB 1779.  He is in service with the 5th Maryland Regiment as a drummer on 1 May 1779 and a private on 1 JUN 1779. The 5th Maryland was re-organized on 12 May 1779 to nine companies and was later re-assigned to the Southern Department on 5 April 1780.

      Combat Veteran of the Revolution

      Benjamin's units were involved in the following actions during his periods of service:  quelled a Tory insurrection in Somerset and Worcester Counties;   Brandywine, September 11, 1777;    Germantown, October 4, 1777;  Monmouth, June 28, 1778 and  Camden August 16, 1780.

      Hamilton County First Citizen

      Patriot Robert Patterson is not only veteran of the Revolutionary War but recognized as one of the first citizens and early settlers of Hamilton County, Tennessee which is currently celebrating its 200thAnniversary as an organized county. Descendants of the Patriot still reside in Hamilton County. 

      Soldier from North Carolina

       Robert Patterson was born 1764, Mecklenburg, North Carolina. At age 15 he enroll in the Mecklenburg militia as part of the Salisbury District Brigade in 1779.  Later   

      serving as part of Major William Richardson Davie’s Independent Corps of Light Horse. 

      Recognized Leader

         North Carolina records note that Robert Patterson, of the Mecklenburg County Regiment was serving as a Lieutenant under Capt. William Gardner in 1781.  A Captain Patterson commanded a company under Col. Irwin in the campaign to force the British out of Wilmington. The records do not indicate a first name for Captain Patterson, but with Robert’s past experience as a Lt. it is most likely him (No other Patterson is noted as being an officer at this time). 

      Combat Veteran of the Revolution

      Unit records are imperfect but the command's Robert Patterson served with most likely meant he participated in the following actions: Stono Ferry, SC 20 JUN 1779; Hanging Rock, SC 30 JUL 1780; Wahab's Plantation, SC 21 SEP 1780; King's Mountain, SC 07 OCT 1780 and "the Race to the Dan".
